What NOT to Wear for Your Maternity Photoshoot
Maternity Sessions – Fort Worth, DFWBy Robin Vadehra, Precious Gems Photography
When planning your maternity photoshoot, the right outfit can make all the difference in creating glowing, timeless images. While many mamas focus on what to wear, it’s just as important to know what not to wear.

As a professional Fort Worth maternity photographer, I guide my clients through every step — from wardrobe styling to location scouting — so you can feel confident, comfortable, and radiant during your session.
✨ Anything That Makes You Uncomfortable
If you’re tugging at straps or adjusting fabric every few minutes, your attention is on your clothes instead of the moment. Comfort is essential for genuine, glowing portraits.
A relaxed mama equals relaxed photos that you’ll love forever. Choose pieces that let you breathe, move, and fully enjoy celebrating your pregnancy journey.
👗 Limiting Yourself to Only One Outfit

I absolutely love incorporating 2–3 looks into each maternity photography session — it brings variety and lets you show off multiple sides of your story.
We might start with a cozy casual look, shift into a flowing goddess-style gown, and finish with something a little sultry for a touch of maternity boudoir magic. This variety creates a stunning, diverse gallery that beautifully tells your story.
🚫 Neon Colors
Neon shades reflect onto your skin and can distort tones, making your photos look harsh instead of soft and glowing. They also don’t match the timeless aesthetic of boudoir maternity photography or traditional DFW maternity photography.
These colors are difficult to edit and don’t blend well with the dreamy, organic tones I use in my galleries. Skip the highlighter hues — let’s keep your look soft, romantic, and effortlessly elegant.
🌿 Bonus Tip: What to Wear Instead

Earth tones, neutrals, and soft muted colors photograph best — think creams, olives, blush pinks, navy blues, and warm browns. These tones highlight your natural glow while maintaining a classic and timeless feel.
Adding texture — lace, chiffon, knits, or soft layers — brings beautiful dimension to your portraits, especially during golden hour when the Texas sunlight hits just right.
And the best part? Every full session includes access to my luxury client closet, featuring designer gowns by Reclamation, ZeBubu, Stelia Art, and Don & Judy. These gowns are hand-selected to flatter your bump and celebrate the divine beauty of motherhood.
Together, we’ll mix casual, glamorous, and sultry looks so your maternity gallery tells the full story of this incredible chapter in your life.
